Please ensure that you're using a data USB cable. Some USB cables are only for charging and do not work for data transmission. Preferably, use the cable that comes with your Mikme, as this is a data cable.
1 – Connect your Mikme to a computer
If you don´t know the OS version number of your MIkme, please check it first.
My Mikme runs on OS 0.35 or higher
- Connect your Mikme first with an USB cable to your computer (Micro USB connector for the Mikme Microphone). Preferably, use the cable that comes with your Mikme, as this is a data cable.
- Switch on the Mikme Microphone using the Power button at backside of the microphone. Press the Power button for about 1 second to power your Mikme.
My Mikme runs on OS 0.34 or lower
- Switch on your Mikme before connecting it to your computer using the Power button at backside of the microphone. Press the Power button for about 1 second to power your Mikme.
- Connect your Mikme with an USB cable to your computer (Micro USB connector for the Mikme Microphone). Preferably, use the cable that comes with your Mikme, as this is a data cable.
2 – Mikme will connect with your computer
Mikme's top LED will flash orange when Mikme connects to your computer indicating it has switched into the external USB storage mode.
3 – Mikme will show up as an external USB storage device
- Now you should see your Mikme mounted as an external USB storage device on your computer's file explorer.
- You can now transfer files from and to your Mikme.
- Whenever there is data communication between the microphone and the computer, the top LED on the Mikme will flash orange. Please ensure that you never disconnect the Mikme from the computer when the top LED is flashing, as this could destroy the filesystem of the Mikme.
4 – Access the files on Mikme
- You can access your files of your Mikme Microphone if you click the Mikme external storage icon on your computer's file explorer called "MIKMExxxx".
- Within the //RECxxxx/ folder you'll find your recordings. You can easily copy them to your computer. If your Mikme is configured to record with a sample rate of 44.1kHz you will find both a .m4a and a .wav filr of your recordings. If your Mikme is set to a sampling rate of 48 kHz or 96 kHz you will only find a .wav file of your recordings.
- The files "MRECxxxx.mmd" holds information about the parameters of each recording and can be opened with a text editor.
- The //version.jsn file can be opened in a text editor and holds information about the current software and hardware version of the Mikme Microphone.
The files on your Mikme are NOT write-protected and can be deleted and overwritten. So please mind your file manipulation steps!
5 – Eject and disconnect Mikme
- To disconnect the Mikme safely you need to eject it from your finder/explorer or use the "safe remove" function of your computer.
- Never eject the Mikme or unplug the USB cable as long as it´s top LED is flashing orange.
- Once the top LED has stopped flashing and the Mikme external storage icon has disappeared from the computer's desktop, you can disconnect the USB cable from the Mikme.
As we currently have different versions of Mikme OS out there, there is a chance that your Mikme Microphone still runs an older version of Mikme OS. If your microphone will not connect to the computer as described above please disconnect your Mikme and try it the following way:
If your microphone runs an older version of the Mikme OS you need to power on the Mikme first and then connect the USB cable. The microphone will start to connect with the computer and the top LED will start blinking orange. Once your Mikme is mounted to the computer as an external storage the top LED will light up steadily.
If your Mikme connects in this way, please update the Mikme OS on your microphone at your earliest convenience with the help of this article!
If the Mikme microphone will not connect to your computer with either of the above mentioned methods please be aware that establishing a USB connection could be tricky as many components need to work together. Check the following:
- Make sure to use the right USB cable, if possible try to connect using different USB cables.
- Connect your computer to its power supply and wake it from power saving mode. The Mikme will automatically be charged as soon as it's connected but sometimes the USB port of a computer cannot deliver the needed power.
- Try a different port on your computer, as sometimes different ports on a computer can behave differently.
- Use a powered hub in case the USB ports of your computer cannot deliver the needed power to supply the Mikme and establish a connection.
- Wait for a few minutes and retry again. The longer you wait the better the chance that the connection will work.
- Restart the computer and try again.
